A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth with a fixed restoration anchored to something on either side, either your own teeth or implants.

The two kinds, and the honest difference

A conventional bridge is supported by the natural teeth beside the gap. It is faster and less expensive than implant treatment, and it requires preparing those teeth, which cannot be undone.

An implant bridge is supported by implants placed in the gap itself. It leaves your remaining teeth alone and preserves the bone underneath. It costs more and takes longer.

Which is right depends mostly on the condition of the neighbouring teeth. If they already carry crowns or large fillings, a bridge makes good use of them. If they are intact, there is a real argument for not cutting them.

Where bridges go wrong

At the supporting teeth, and underneath. Both are cleaning problems as much as dental ones, which is why the design should make cleaning realistic rather than theoretically possible.
